Megan Glasmann finished second in the javelin and two Utes broke school records for the Utah track and field team on the first day of the Pac-12 Championships. Glasmann finished second in the javelin with a throw of 166'0" feet. It is the second-straight year she has finished second in the event.Becky Sarmiento set a new school record in the 3,000 steeplechase with a 10th-place finish in a time of 10:38.08. Also setting a school record was Alissa Atisme in the 200, coming in 11th in 24.06, which lowers her previous school record. Atisme also ran the 100, placing 21st overall (12.00). Sarah Feeny qualified for Sunday's finals in the 1,500 with a time of 4:19.79, 11th-best overall. Nikki Rietz (4:32.07) was 24th in the event followed by Hannah McInturff in 25th (4:33.12). Grace Englund just missed qualifying for the finals in the 800, placing 10th overall in 2:10.81. Allison Aafedt was12th with a time of 2:12.26 in the event and Makenzie Clark finished 19th (2:16.07). In the 400 hurdles, Christine Van Brocklin placed 12th (1:02.09) while Madison Lanford (1:04.56) came in 14th. Shaylen Crook finished 17th in the 10,000 (37:20.01). Ilse Kaaja finished third in the hammer throw as the Utah track and field team finished 10th at the Pac-12 Championships on Sunday. Kaaja had a toss of 192'03" in the hammer (58.61 meters) to finish third in the event, improving on her sixth-place finish as a freshman last year. Sarah Feeny, who qualified for the finals in the 1,500 yesterday, did not finish today's race. She has recently struggled with injury. Utah placed ninth in the 4x400 relay with Alissa Atisme, Grace Englund, Christine Van Brocklin and Allison Aafedt running a time of 3:42.78, the best time of the year in the event for that group and each athlete ran a personal record split in the race. Rebekah Winterton, who is coming off an injury and has a regional qualifying time in the 10,000, finished 21st in the 5,000 in 17:16.52. Jessica Sams placed 24th (17:23.46) while Lauren Mills was 30th (18:07.27). Utah's 10th-place finish tied for its highest finish since joining the conference in 2012 (Utah tied for 10th in 2012). The Utes had 14 total points. |
