Description |
Council House, Salt Lake City, on southwest corner of South Temple and Main Streets. Its construction commenced February 26, 1849--completed November 1850. First public building built in Salt Lake City. It was a civic and social center. Utah Territorial library opened here February 11, 1854. University of Deseret opened here March 8, 1869. Destroyed by fire June 21, 1883. Loss about $100,000. |
