Description |
The pineal gland, also called the pineal body, is round or oval. Its stalk forms part of the posterior superior wall of the third ventricle, and the gland is thus situated under the splenium of the corpus callosum and over the superior colliculus. The adult pineal gland is lobulated and contains two types of cells, the parenchymal cells (pinealocytes) and the stromal cells (fibrillary astrocytes). |
