Description |
Because there is no definitive laboratory test for KD, the diagnosis is based on clinical criteria. Kawasaki and his colleagues originally described six clinical criteria for diagnosis of the disease: 1. Fever that is unresponsive to antibiotics and that persists for more than 5 days; 2. Bilateral nonexudative conjunctival injection; 3. Oropharyngeal abnormalities, including diffuse erythema of the oropharynx, a ""strawberry tongue,"" and erythema, fissuring, and crusting of the lips; 4. Abnormalities of the peripheral extremities, including induration of the hands and feet, erythema of the palms and soles, desquamation of the tips of the fingers and toes, and transverse grooves across the fingernails and toenails (Beau lines); 5. An erythematous, papulomacular rash across the trunk; 6. Cervical lymphadenopathy with lymph node diameter greater than 1.5 cm. |
