Show INTRODUCTION. vii I am not at liberty to mention the names of the parties from whom I received most of the information concerning the Mormons ; but suffice it to say it was from those who spoke of their own personal knowledge and observation. Having no aspirations for notoriety as an author, and having written these pages more for the gratification of my friends than for any advantage that can accrue to me indi vidually, I would refer the reader to the Rev. Dr. New man, as in a measure responsible for the publication, and I have no doubt, if he cannot indorse all that I have written, he will vouch for the honesty and disinterested motives of THE AUTHOR.
