The artist Gordon Nicholson Cope was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1906. He taught art at the Latter-day Saints University and the Mountain school of art. Cope served in the Works Projects Administration (WPA), created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Great Depression. Marion Sharp was born in 1906 in New York City. She was the eldest daughter of eight children. A soprano, Marion performed with the Philadelphia Opera Company, the San Francisco Opera Company and the Teatro del Opera in Rome. Marion attended the University of Utah and Columbia University. She studied music at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. She also studied voice and languages in Munich, Paris and Rome. She had a life-long interest in art. She collected paintings from all over the world. Many of them are on display at the University of Utah Museum of Fine Arts and the J. Willard Marriott Library. She was a long-time resident of Salt Lake City, Utah, and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married Eldridge Spencer Robinson in 1939. |
