Mikkel and Torjus Hemmestveit. The Hemmestveit brothers were the first known ski jumpers in the U.S. They made the first leaps on skis in America in 1880. Mikkel Hemmestveit set the first American ski jumping record of 37 feet in 1887 at Ishpeming, MI.
