Description The University of Utah School of Medicine has been named a Center of Excellence in Molecular Hematology by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health (NIH). The U of U is one of only three centers for blood disease research established by the NIDDK. The award, announced by NIDDK last week, is for $750,000 annually for five years-$3.75 million-to enable basic and clinical scientists at the U of U to collaborate in the study of the genetic regulation of blood formation, as well as in testing the efficacy and safety of new methods for treating blood diseases.
