Description Lyle A. Dethlefsen, D.V.M., Ph.D., has spent the major part of his career in experimental oncology at the University of Utah School of Medicine in research ultimately aimed at helping people with cancer. On Jan. 11 he left science and academia to offer help to people at a much more basic and immediate level. In March, he and his wife Vera will begin training to serve as Peace Corps volunteers in Bolivia.
