Teams must include two men and two women ( one team member must be a hospital or medical school employee). Registration is $ 8 per player or $ 32 a team and includes a lunch coupon for the cafeteria, green fees, a golf ball and drinks ( on the course). D., OTRIL, assistant professor of occupational therapy, tells a spectator at the Senior PGA Novell Utah Showdown about the potential danger of hand vibration when mowing the lawn, cycling or playing golf. Wright's booth was one of 18 health sciences programs represented at the U of U- sponsored health fair held in conjunction with the golf tournament. More than 100 health sciences employees volunteered approximately 1,000 hours to the fair. As one of the tournament's major beneficiaries, the hospital's NBICU will receive $ 200,000 from the Senior PGA event. Roy Shupe & the RubberBand to Kick Off Concert Series Unique " Acoustic Pop" music by Roy Shupe & the RubberBand will open the week- long Brown Bag Concert series in the Browning Plaza Monday, August 16. The 45- minute concerts will begin at 12: 15 p. m. RubberBand won the 1997 Telluride National Band Competition. Using a variety of instruments ( guitar, mandolin, fiddle, drums, bass, bouzouki and key-board) the band blends elements of rock, country, folk, pop, bluegrass and jazz. In addition to Shupe, band members are Wally Barnum, Roger Archibald, Craig Miner and Rory Carrera. During the course of his musical career, Shupe has ranked nationally in mando-lin, fiddle and guitar contests including 1st mandolin, 2n d fiddle and 2nd guitar at Telluride), and has performed with Chris LeDeux and John McEuen. Other concerts next week are August 17: Enoch Train, folk; August 18: Cotton-wood Ensemble, classical chamber music; August 19: Mambo Jumbo, salsa/ Latin jazz; August 20: Doug Wintch Band, folk/ country/ blues. Ware Branc h Jr. Branch Named Second Holder of Benning Presidential Chair An obstetrician renowned for research into recurrent pregnancy loss, D. Ware Branch Jr., M. D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology, has been named the second holder of the H. A. & Edna Benning Presidential Endowed Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Branch succeeds James R. Scott, M. D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology, who has semi-retired. Vice chair for administrative and clinical affairs in the ob- gyn department, Branch is an expert on autoim-mune disorders and the immunologic aspects of recurrent pregnancy loss. His awards include the 1994 J. Christian Herr Award from the American Society for the Immunology of Reproduction and the 1986 Outstanding Young Researcher Award. He is widely respected for both clinical care and research. The endowed chair is one of four provided by an endowment from the estate of A. E. Benning, a long-time resident of Ogden, Utah, where he was chairman and chief executive officer of Amalgamated Sugar Company. The chair is named in honor of Benning's parents. U Sports Medicine Team Raises $ 3,800 at Utah's Best Dam MS Bike Race A team from the hospital's Sports Medicine Physical Therapy Clinic recently helped raise more than $ 3,800 for the Utah Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at the organization's 13rh annual Utah's Best Dam MS 150 Bike Tour. The U team included sports medicine employees Kim Cohee, Barbara Fink, Monica Mason, Robin Marcus, Misha Bradford, Stephanie Fagin, Todd Reich and Patty Trela. Other friends and family who participated on the U team included: Paul Cohee, Bob Fink, John Case, Katie Ewing, John Silverman, James King, Melissa Mills, Harold Aune, Gregory Skordas, and Andy Knapp. The two- day cycling event was held in Cache Valley and cyclists rode 75 miles each day. More than $ 248,000 was raised by 700 bikers. Proceeds will help fund research into the cause and cure of MS and help provide services to Utahns living with the disease.
