Description |
Stain: Hematoxylin and eosin. Emphysema is defined as enlargement of the air spaces (X) distal to the terminal bronchioles, with destruction of the alveolar walls. The remaining alveolar walls are thickened (1). There is an increased cellularity and locally signs of chronic inflammation (↓) are present. |
