Description Stagecoach inn (Carson Hotel) in Fairfield, Utah -- part of Camp Floyd State Park. Built in 1858 by the Carson family, the inn-hotel flourished during the three years (1858-61) that Johnston's Army occupied Camp Floyd nearby. It served as a Pony Express station in 1860-61, and as an Overland Stage stop until 1870. Thereafter, the inn served a steadily declining travel until 1947, when it closed its doors after an active life of nearly 90 years. In 1958 the old building was presented to the Utah Park & Recreation Commission, which has restored it as part of Camp Floyd State Park. Photo taken 1960, before restoration.
