Description Denver and Rio Grande Western RR 1700 an M-64 class locomotive with a 4-8-4 wheel arrangement of Northern type. Built for fast passenger service by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, PA in 1929 with 70" diameter driving wheels; scrapped in June1956. These locomotives were used over the main lines of the Rio Grande on both the Moffat Tunnel and Royal Gorge routes. Regularly used to power trains to Salt Lake City. Donor: Mike B. Davis.
