14422 Washakie, for 60 years Chief of the Shoshone Indians, Wyoming-Utah-Idaho area, noted for his friendliness to the Whites, and for the success of his people under his chieftainship. Born 1804. Died February 20, 1900. (Sometimes said to have been born in 1798.) Friend of Brigham Young, James Bridger, General A.S. Johnson, General George Crook. He is buried at Fort Washakie, near Lander, Wyoming, was given full U.S. Military funeral. |
