Title USHS_PR_Page 22Provo River
Description Historical 5ite Anali|gls E. South Garage This building is approximately 24 feet wide by 104 feet long with 10-foot wide hinged garage doors located on the west side. This is a post and beam wood structure with columns spaced on 10.5-foot centers. Each row of columns is supported by multiple 2 by 8 and 2 by 10 beams which in turn support 2 by 6 roof joists at 16-inch centers. Walls are 2 by 4 construction with vertical board and batten siding secured directly over wood studs. Roofing is galvanized corrugated metal over 1 by wood planks. There is no floor in this structure, only dirt. Structural and Fire - Almost all of the footings have some problems ranging from minor cracks to complete failure. Columns sitting on these footings are only half supported since most of the concrete has fallen off. Some columns are split at the center (most notable is the one on the north wall). The board and batten siding is badly deteriorated and sun light, wind, snow, vermin, dust, and etc. enters the structure through every wall. The doors are difficult to open and close due to the racking of the structure. The front of this structure has little shear resistance and would be the first part to fall during an earthquake. This building has no fire resistive coverings such as gypsum wallboard, which increases the probability of the building catching fire. Final Report 22 April \6, 2002
