Description Recommendations The following recommendations are the opinions of WPA Architecture and are based on historical significance, current conditions, and feasibility. Since all subject buildings are historically similar and similar in construction, these recommendations are all-inclusive. The historical significance, as outlined in the historical brief, lies with the period of time for which these buildings were constructed (during the great depression), the methods of which they were constructed, and the purposes for which they were constructed. the remaining buildings only represent a small portion of the original encampment. all other buildings have previously been removed. they were constructed during the great depression to be used only temporarily and de-mountable in case their use was more important elsewhere. to restore these buildings to their original conditions and take full advantage of their historical significance would only be possible if they were structurally upgraded to insure public safety. since these buildings were designed to be temporary and demountable any structural upgrade would compromise their historical significance. to rehabilitate these buildings would be possible. however, the current size and location would severely compromise economizing this site for future use. to relocate them would require them to be dismantled and reconstructed, again compromising their historical significance. to adaptively re-use the buildings would not be recommended. the current structural status is not adequate for re-use. it would be less expensive to construct new structurally sound buildings. to document and demolish the buildings would allow current conditions to be recorded and joined with other historical photos, stories, biographies, reports, newspaper articles, etc., to be preserved for use by the public. the buildings would be removed, allowing the property to be optimally used. Our recommendation would be to properly document and remove the buildings. Every building ever constructed has a history, some more significant than others. these buildings have sufficient historical significance that they should not be forgotten. If new buildings are planned for the site, we feel it appropriate that a respectful display be designed in the lobby of any new building that would properly display historical events which occurred on this site.
