Baxter Coal Company was opened by Arthur and Fannie Baxter in opened the Baxter Coal and Feed Yard at the former Vernal Lumber building on First South. The new firm will handle Colorado and Carbon County coal, feed hay and grain. By 1942, the Vernal Express is advertising the Baxter Coal being sold at the Farm Exchange. The manager there was Eugene Weist. Mr. Baxter died of a heart ailment in September of 1945 and Fannie continued with the business, living in Vernal. In the photo is an unidentified man, Arthur Baxter and Fannie Baxter. |
