| Description | The Gilsonite mining operation began at Dragon, Utah about 1903. It didn't take long for the community of Dragon to grow. Houses, a store and a school were built and by 1904 the Uintah Railway was built. It hauled Gilsonite from Dragon back over Baxter Pass to the community of Mack, Colorado. When the railway was built to Watson, Utah, Dragon struggled. The mines shut down and by 1939 there was no one left in Dragon, Utah. |
