State funding leverages the ability to compete for grants and makes the state attractive to publishers and other institutions looking for partners. Initiatives include: - SUU's Sherratt Library, Institute of Museum & Library Services grant, to create a multimedia exhibit portraying the history of the Colorado Plateau - BYU's Lee Library, Ameritech grant, Utah pioneer diaries - UU's Marriott Library, Library Services and Technology Act grant, early Utah newspapers - UU's Marriott Library, project with Bell & Howell to digitize Sanborn Fire Insurance maps Advances in computing and networks are transforming higher education and academic libraries. Libraries continue to house extensive collections of hardcopy books and journals. They now serve also as centers for the effective use of the new technologies.
