UCLC would pay for access to the indexes/abstracts through BYU's Gateway; DocDirect software, an additional set of full image disks, 3 jukeboxes, 1 image server, 1 fax server, print server software and print station hardware for 12 stations. The UCLC system would reside at UofU. BYU's & UCLC's systems would be backup for each other. >In PHASE 2, UCLC would pay for access to the Business Periodicals full image database. UCLC would not purchase or lease additional hardware (e.g., jukeboxes) -- access would be through BYU's jukebox system. This arrangement would be contingent on BYU being able to handle the additional UCLC load. During PHASE 1, BYU will evaluate usage statistics and decide whether the PHASE 2 arrangement is feasible. If not, UCLC would have to add 3 jukeboxes. If BYU participates as part of a UCLC arrangement with UMI, their share of the data cost (first line on the UMI proposal's price tables) is already paid and would be deducted from the total UCLC cost. The figures below exclude BYU, but UCLC will need to partially reimburse BYU because we benefit so much from BYU being the initial host site. E.g., UMI's proposal didn't show the "Image Host Fee" of $40,450. It assumed we would all be added as satellite sites. Wade's figures didn't include the $2000 for 2nd set of image disks. **For UMI, this is the one-time charge for print server software ($1995 per print server). It is figured on the basis of 1 print station at each of 12 libraries (not counting BYU, but counting Eccles & UofU Law). ?? For IAC, we do not have a figure yet for print server software. But it definitely is not included in the data cost. For current use, we can probably figure the same as UMI, $1995. But in fairness, I've shown 2 "TOTAL" lines -- with and without a software cost. ***This is just the hardware (estimated $3500 per print station). See notes ** and ?? for print station software. Again, we don't have IAC's specifications but are figuring the same hardware cost as for UMI. Hardware includes a 486DX33 or better, Ethernet card (for Novell LAN), special card (e.g., XIONICS for UMI), and laser printer such as HP4si. might get a better price by buying all the print stations together. UCLC ****DocDirect may be necessary to add a fax server, which is important for delivery to branch campuses and distance learning sites. UofU would also benefit directly by DocDirect's accounting feature (i.e., charge patron accounts individually). The entire cost of DocDirect is listed here, but presumably Council would decide on some portion for UofU to pay alone. >BYU has already bought the UMI system, including the indexes/abstracts, DocDirect software, both General Periodical and Business Periodical databases (full image CD-ROMs), 6 jukeboxes, 1 image server, 1 fax server, print server software, and print station hardware. BYU will use this system for BYU in Provo, BYU Hawaii, and Ricks College. >At any point UCLC's use of BYU's Gateway might increase dramatically and BYU would need to add hardware and ports to handle UCLC's use of the UMI indexes. UCLC would need to pay all or a share of the costs. If this occurred during PHASE 1, it would postpone implementation of PHASE 2.
