Description Nanise, a Native American Southern Ute sub-chief, is seated in front of a tepee at a fair in New Mexico. He wears a feather headdress, long fur covered braids, a fringed buckskin shirt, hairpipe necklace, a George Washington Peace Medallion, leggings with beaded bands and silver studs, and fully beaded moccasins. He holds a tall staff covered in cloth with feathers. Draped on the tepee and on his chair are woven wool blankets.
