Description Studio portrait of a Native American (Ute) family identified as Chief Severo and his family. Women sit and wear shawls (mantas) over dresses and beaded moccasins; one woman holds a leather purse with a chain handle. Babies in cradleboards made with leather, beads or quills, and decorated with fringe are beside women. A girl wears a dress and a necklace. Men stand and wear bone breastplates and braids. A man wears a neckerchief and earrings. Another man wears a choker necklace and a feather in his hair. Chief Severo wears a uniform suit with vest and jacket and a hat.
