Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Journal History containing references to Utah Indians. This is an official report of the Gunnison Massacre, in which Captain J.W. Gunnison's party was attacked by Indians while surveying for the Central Pacific Railroad. After the attack, Governor Young sends a party to recover bodies and belongings and to attempt to meet with Indian allies in the area. In the second half of the document, Anson Hall describes a meeting with the Indians in which he advises a chief not to attack the Gunnison company. Call also describes the massacre's aftermath |
