Note: "Fang Congyi [Fang Ts'ung-i] (b Guixi, Jiangxi Province; fl c. 1340-80) [was a] Chinese painter who became a Daoist priest in his youth...He is reported to have visited many famous sites along the Great Wall and may have made several trips to the scenic mountains that were considered the home of the Daoist immortals...During the last period of his life he is thought to have travelled extensively in south China...According to his contemporaries, he had an unearthly manner and bearing that recalled the qualities of a Daoist immortal...his life as a Daoist priest and the individuality of his style set him apart from his contemporaries."--Oxford Art / Grove Art Online.
