There is some question about the artist who painted this particular iconic tiger. The upper part of the painting bears the seal of Hyeonjae (玄齋), which was the pen name of Sim Sajeong (沈師正, 1707-1769), a representative painter of the 18th century Joseon Dynasty. Thus, the painting was previously attributed to Sim, but that view has since been strongly challenged, because the style of the calligraphy varies definitively from Sim's."--National Museum of Korea website. Note: Yi Dynasty of Korea (also known as the Choson or Joseon Dynasty): 1382-1910. Note: Original caption information provided as: "tiger by Sim Sa-jong (1707-69) Yi Dyn. Dated Chia-wu (1774) after Artists Death Korea (on back) someone else must have attached seal and inscript. Or possibly it is by Kim Hong-do who pted a sim. One."
