It was constructed and developed from 1620 to 1840. Originally, Kenrokuen garden was the outer garden of Kanazawa Castle. In 1874, the garden was opened to the public--Wikipedia. Note: According to the ancient Chinese book of gardens, there are six different sublime qualities to which a garden can aspire. Grouped in their traditional complementary pairs, they are: spaciousness & seclusion, artifice & antiquity, water-courses & panoramas."Kenroku-en" literally means "garden that combines six characteristics."--Kenrokuen Garden official website. |
