Additional Information Image was scanned from color slide. Note: Hakone is a town in the Kanagawa Prefecture of Japan. Most of the town is within the borders of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, centered around Lake Ashi, less than 100 kilometers from Tokyo.--Japan Guide website. Note: Hakone used to be an important checkpoint to control traffic along the Tokaido, the highway which linked Tokyo with Kyoto during the feudal Edo Period. The checkpoint building was built in 1619. Today, a short, cedar-lined passage of the old Tokaido and a reconstruction (1965) of the Hakone Checkpoint (Hakone Sekisho) are located between Moto-Hakone and Hakone-machi along the shore of Lake Ashi.--Japan Guide website.
