Show University of Utah GREEN TEAMS Start tangible actions to reduce greenhouse gases. - Individual staff initiatives in all departments - Engagement across campus GO GREEN ON CAMPUS Green Teams Green Teams were started to help the University of Utah reach a goal of climate neutrality as soon as possible. "Climate Neutrality is about eliminating wasteful habits as well as providing a vision for practices, policies, and actions that will lead to a sustainable campus." - 2010 Climate Action Plan Why form a Green Team? • Green Teams are critical to the success of the University of Utah in meeting the goal of becoming a climate neutral campus. • Green Teams help individuals make positive impacts on their own departments. Only with the support of the campus community can we reach our goal! Win/Win Green Team projects can be as simple or as complicated as you envision for your department. - No matter the size of the project it helps the U reach its goal of climate neutrality and your department become greener! Who are your Advisors? -‐ Office of Sustainability -‐ Energy Management -‐ Facili<es Management Advisors Moving forward as a Green Team … • Meet regularly • Set priorities and move ahead on approved net-saving/no-cost/low-cost recommendations • Develop implementation plan with budget and timeline • Track progress and report back Team Direc/on & Mo/va/on • Identify Initiatives & Priorities • Create a Living Action Plan • Encourage individual leadership and independent projects • Acknowledge Achievements Gaining & Maintaining Leadership Support • Official Charge from Dean/Director • Visible Part of Organizational Structure • Mission & Values Statements • Strategic Plan • Active Participation: Everyone • Campus Visibility Green Team Accomplishments • Marriott Library - Diverted more than 65,000 plastic bottles from the land#ll since the installation of our water bottle #lling stations • University Orthopedic Center- Switched all of their paper purchases for their copiers to a minimum 30% post consumer recycled content • Social Work - Promoting SCIF to students to apply for funds to Green Events on campus such as Bike to the U Day and retro-#tting drinking fountains to re#llable bottle stations Free and Easy Ways to Green-‐Up Your Department Now! 1. Print only what you need and print double-‐sided. 2. Setup recycling bins for Mixed Paper, Office Pack, Aluminum, Plas6c and Cardboard and re-‐purpose exis<ng bins. Ask and we will email you free labels! 3. Use recycled paper in your office and order through your preferred state contracted vendor for extra savings. 4. When not in use, turn off computer monitors. 5. Schedule a free energy assessment with the Office of Energy Management. Ask us how!
