| Description | The interview with Dr. Glen Fifield, a 95-year-old retired music educator, details his musical career and his immense contribution to the music program in Carbon County, Utah. Starting with his father's cornet, his passion led to serious music study and a teaching career that saw him and woodwind specialist Derral Siggard build a celebrated band program in Price, which was invited to march in the Rose Parade. They developed the Master Musician program to motivate students to achieve individual excellence. During his time in Price, Fifield also played trumpet in the legendary Jimmy Dart Orchestra, a big band dance group that performed across the state. He later taught at the College of Eastern Utah and finished his career at Utah State University. Dr. Fifield praised the vital contributions of Janis Siggard, who served as a tremendous musician and accompanist for hundreds of student solos. He and Derral Siggard consciously worked to uphold the musical tradition established by earlier educator E.M. Williams, proudly referring to their group as A Band With a Heritage. |
