The Shepherd cabin is a two story recreation residence built on Lot #30 in the Christmas Meadows Summer Home Area in 1960. The cabin is a natural log clad structure with green trim and a brown asphalt shingled roof. The cabin retains a significant amount of original features with very minor alterations to the roof line with the widening of a bathroom in 1989. A matching log clad dry pit toilet also contributes to the overall integrity of the site. Non-contributing structures include the wood storage rack, fire pit ring and "Moose" lookout. The character and style of the original residence is still visually similar to the 1960's period of significance. As a result, the structure is considered eligible for the national historic register. 5 PROPOSED ACTION Describe the impending action (e.g., road widening, rehabilitation, alteration, demolition). Use continuation sheets as necessary for additional photos and text. The permit holder of Cabin #30 proposes to demolish the existing cabin. The permit holder proposes to replace them with a cabin a nd outbuilding that meets scale and design requirements for recreational cabins on Forest Service land.
