Stan Graves Oral History Interview

Stan Graves, born in 1955, moved to the Brigham City area in 1983 to work as an engineer at Thiokol after working on the Space Shuttle Orbiter in California. He chose Brigham City for its rural setting and high-tech career opportunities, settling in Honeyville where he raised two sons. He values the abundant outdoor activities in the region, such as ATV riding, hunting, and fishing, which he believes are unique to the West due to extensive public lands. Graves retired from Thiokol (now Northrop Grumman) six years ago, having served as a chief engineer for the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Boosters and head of Safety Emission Assurance and Quality. He emphasizes the importance of a strong work ethic and patience for young people entering the aerospace industry, while also expressing concerns about unchecked growth, pollution, and the loss of rural character in Utah.
