Steve Brown Oral History Interview

Oral history interview by Mary Heers with Steve Brown. Topics include: Growing up in Fillmore and a move to Texas during high school; Staying in Texas to finish his education when his family returned to Fillmore; Becoming interested in the poetry of song lyrics during high school; Completing a degree in Creative Writing and meeting his future wife at SUU; Becoming an english teacher and teaching on a Navajo reservation for eight years but returning to Fillmore during the summers; Marriage and children; A move to Arizona while his son attended high school and a return to family property on Fillmore; Enjoying teaching students to write; His dual career as a poet and a teacher, and his love of gardening.

Mr. Steve Brown was a creative writing major in college. After finishing, he became a teacher and taught on the Navajo reservation for eight years. For a short time, he worked at the mushroom plant in Fillmore. Currently, he teaches at White River Academy, a therapeutic boarding school for boys. Mr. Brown is a poet and creative writer. He also enjoys gardening, and other creative endeavors.
