Subject Optic Neuropathy
Description Non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) is the most common acute optic neuropathy in patients over age 50, and there is a 15-25% risk of a sequential (sNAION) event in the fellow eye. The Ischemic Optic Nerve Decompression Trial reported 326 patients with NAION (mean follow-up: 5.1 years) with a 14.7% incidence of sNAION; median time between study enrollment and sNAION was 1.2 years.
