In May 1928 engineers for the Utah State Road Commission completed the design for this single-span girder bridge. USRC designated the bridge, an identical structure over the Piute Canal [041012D], several small culverts and about ten miles of grading on U.S. Highway 89 as Federal Aid Project 77-B, awarding the contract for their construction to B.D. Palfreyman. The contractor completed the project the following year for a total cost of$94,289.50 (the Clear Creek Bridge cost about $7,700.00). In 1967 the roadway was widened to 39 feet and the original guardrails replaced with aluminum tubes. Since its modification, the structure has functioned in place with no further alterations of note. This site consists of a prestressed concrete girder bridge (OD 764) that spans the Clear Creek on U.S. Highway 89, 0.4 mile south of Sevier Junction (milepost 190.341). This bridge is prestressed concrete reinforced with steel rebar and displays a double T-beam design. The bridge is 39 feet long and 42.5 feet wide. The bridge is constructed with poured concrete abutments and two precast concrete pile caps supported by round concrete piles. The asphalt decking surface of the bridge has been maintained since it was originally constructed. The concrete guardrail is topped with aluminum tube railing. 5 +,6725< 6,*1,),&$1&( :ULWH D EULHI KLVWRU\ RI WKH SURSHUW\ LI NQRZQ IRFXVLQJ SULPDULO\ RQ WKH RULJLQDO RU SULQFLSDO RZQHUV DQ\ VLJQLILFDQW HYHQWV RU RWKHU SHRSOH EHVLGHV RZQHUV DVVRFLDWHG ZLWK LW 8VH FRQWLQXDWLRQ VKHHWV DV QHFHVVDU\ The UDOT bridge inventory indicates that the Clear Creek bridge, constructed in 1929 as a single-span girder bridge, was identical to the structure over the Piute Canal [041012D], also built in 1929. However, during their survey, Mead and Hunt discovered that the 1929 bridge had been replaced by the current Clear Creek bridge (OD 764) in 1967. The Clear Creek bridge (OD 764) was constructed in 1967 as a prestressed concrete girder bridge with concrete walls and aluminum tube guardrails. No evidence was found during research or data collection activities to indicate that this bridge is an important example of bridge design, engineering, or construction. Nor does it possess a direct and important association with historical events or trends. Thus, Horrocks recommends the site be considered not eligible for the NRHP as it does not qualify under any criteria. Form completed by: B.
