William Herd Bowman, the original owner, was a miner. William Herd Bowman was born February 14, 1850 in Scotland to Archibald and Margaret Herd Bowman. His parents joined the Mormon church and came to Utah where they settled in Centerville. He met Eliza Jane Dalton there and they were married December 14, 1874. Eliza, the daughter of Henry Simon and Elizabeth Kettleman Dalton was born in Heber City on May 3, 1853. The couple and their two children moved to Heber from Centerville sometime between 1877 and 1879. They had eight more children in Heber City. Bowman worked as a miner probably at the Ontario Mine. He died in Frisco in Beaver County, Utah in 1899 and Eliza died in Heber in 1912. Bowman built this house shortly after coming to Heber. He assessor's record shows it was built in 1881. Before the death of Eliza, she gave the house to her son, John D. Bowman. Bowman was a farmer and a miner. He sold the hous in 1914 to Lina P. Harter. The deed was filed in 1916. Harter then sold the house to William E. Pope. Pope owned it from 1916 to 1922. There is no easily available information on Pope. Pope sold it in 1922 to Mark Jeffs, a Heber businessman and was given as part of Jeff's estate to his son-in-law Dean Ryan in 1925, who owned it until 1966.
