The home was constructed with stone taken from a quarry located in Deep Creek, Morgan County. (about 3 miles north of the building) , Charles William Hogg was the builder. He learned the masonary trade from his father, Robert Jr. Charles quarried much of the sandstone used in the Morgan area. It is known that he had the contract to s~pply the stone for the large canning factory. He also supplied the stone for the LDS Church located in Mt. Green, Utah. He was the builder of this church. He and his family lived in a tent while he worked on the buil~ing. Many of the homes and commercial buildings in Morgan were plastered by his father Robert or himself. In 1924 Lovina Peterson purchased the home and put it on a contract sale to Parley Nash Butter, an employee for the railroad. During the depression years Parley was laid off the railroad. The home reverted back to Lovina, but she allowed the money he had paid on the sandstone home to apply on another home they got from her. Lovina, Viney as she was called, lived in the home with her husband, Charles, They were later separated and Viney retained the home. Upon her death it was 4. No. Stories: 1.5 and/or structures _0___. Briefly describe the principal buildings, noting additions and alterations and their dates, and associated outbuildings and structures. Rectangular in plan with the narrow side facing the street, this bungalow is comprised of a series of horizontal layers which continuously wrap the perimeter of the structure. The lowest layer, which carprises the foundation, is built errploying randcm rubble stone. It is capped by a cast concrete water table which provides a transition between the more rustic randan rubble foundation and the coursed ashlar masonry walls above. These walls are divided into three basic zones, the lower portion employing a randan ashlar pattern, the central a coursed ashlar, and the upper zone which is comprised of a smooth stucco surface trimmed by plain wood bands . Crowning the structure is an Arts and Crafts influenced gable roof with exposed purlins at the gable ends and continuous roof joists at the eaves. The continuous horizontal bands described are intentionally layered so as to place the more rustic materials at the foundation and the more refined materials at the top. The statement is one of an architecture springing fran the ground and being refined as it rises . The most subtle transition is provided between the two coursing methods of the ashlar masonry. The lower portion is comprised of a randan yet very l:egular ashlar pattern while the upper zone employs a more refined ashlar coursing method. Original windows of the structure, some of which remain, consist of double hung sashes in a "four over one" or "three over one" pattern. Door and window openings through the stone walls are articulated by the use of smoothly finished cast concrete heads and sills which provide a contrast to the rock faced ashlar masonry. One associated outbuilding is a pole structured barn which is also organized into horizontal layers, the lower half being enclosed while the upper half is open; exposing the structure to view.
