Show UNIVERSITY OF-:'~H COLLEGE OF NURSING CONVOCATION EXERCISES June 3, 1972 Welcome and Introduction of Speakers Graduates, guests, Mrs. Jean Overfelt, distinguished speakers for Convocation, students and faculty: It is my privilege and pleasure to welcome you to the campus today to honor this year's graduates from the baccalaureate and master's degree programs in nursing. This year's graduating class of 107 students marks the largest graduation ever in the College of Nursing. College graduation and the obtaining of advanced degrees are milestones along the road of life. They represent years of consistent satisfactory or even -2- distinguished achievement for which little recognition may have been given along the way. In the effort to bring performance to even higher levels, educators and professionals often stress with students the evidences of failure rather than those of success. It is the great preponderance of success in the achievement of these nurse professionals to which we pay special tribute today. We congratulate these nurses. This year our graduating students voted to have speakers from the faculty and student ranks. The students had an opportunity to chose those faculty and students whom they felt could speak for them and to whom they wished to bestow -3- the honor of "convocation" For the graduate faculty, Dr. Vera Brand, head of our Graduate Medical-Surgical Nursing Program, will speake .
