The residence has been influenced by the Tudor style as is evidenced by the steep gable porch roof (Weber County Assessor [WCA] 1972). The building measures 26 ft (7.93 m) north-south by 31 ft (9.46 m) east-west and rests upon a concrete foundation, which encloses the crawl space. The exterior of the residence consists of narrow clapboard strips with vertical board and batten siding in the gable end. A projecting gabled Tudor style porch awning is located on the front of the house and is supported by the two wooden brackets. The porch consists ofa small raised poured concrete stoop that has a two-step south entry. ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION (continued) Entry to the residence is made through a side passage doorway, which is located on the right side (south) of the building. A six-over-six double hung window with a wood sash is located on the left side (north) of the house. The remaining fenestration on the residence consists of three six-over-six double hung wood sash windows on both the north and south sides of the building. The gabled roof is covered with brown asphalt shingles, as is the porch roof. The chimney is centered on the ridge line, but south side of the ridge. No other features or additions were visible. In addition to the residence, there is a gable roofed garage located in the rear and measures 10 ft (3.05 m) northsouth by 15 ft (4.58 m) east-west. This wood frame building is covered with wood clapboard siding and a board and batten gable. Access to the garage is through two wooden doors, which are attached by two large side hinges. No windows were visible. 5. HISTORY The residential structure located at 2860 South Wall Avenue, Ogden was built in 1938 (WCA 1972). At that time, the property was owned by Patrick Powers (Weber County Recorder [WCR] 1936). The builder of the house is unknown. The original patent for this property was issued to Lorin Farr, Mayor of Ogden City on August 2, 1872 (WCR 1872). According to Weber County property records, the property where the home now stands, came into possession of Patrick Powers in March, 1936 from Ralph Harrell (WCR 1936). In the 1935 Polk Directory, both Patrick Powers and his wife, "Annie", are listed at 210 West Patterson (R.L. Polk & Co. 1935:376). Further analysis of the Polk City Directories and chain oftitles indicate that between 1935 and 1936 the Powers moved to their new home at 2856 South Wall Avenue in addition to owning the property addressed at 2860 South Wall Avenue (R.L. Polk & Co. 1935:376; 1936-37:365; WCR 1936). After a thorough search of historical records only limited information could be located on Patrick and Antonia Powers. Patrick Powers was born to John Powers and Margaret Farvee, in Chartiolie County, Cork, Ireland on March 17,1861 (Salt Lake Tribune [SLT] 22 March 1955:20). He married Antonia Zondervan in Ogden, Utah on November 17,1915 (SLT 22 March 1955:20). Antonia Zondervan is listed as being born ca. 1901, possibly in Ogden, Utah to undesignated parents (Family History Library [FHL] n.d.). Together they had three daughters (FHL n.d.; SLT 22 March 1955 :20). Mr. Powers had worked as a harness maker (R.L. Polk & Co. 1900-01) and laborer (R.L. Polk & Co. 1906) before becoming a successful businessman involved with livestock (R.L. Polk & Co. 1914:316; 1933:332; 1935:376; 1940:366). Patrick Powers died at age 94 from old age on March 21, 1955 (SLT 22 March 1955:20). No death date was obtained for Antonia Powers, but she died some time after 1955 based on the fact that she is listed as the surviving widow in the obituary for Patrick Powers (SLT 22 March 1955:20). According to the Polk Directory listings, the Powers' never occupied the residence at 2860 South Wall, however it appears that they rented the property to Clair and Margaret Nelson who resided at the property from 1939 until 1946 (R.L. Polk & Co. 1939:316; 1945:318; 1946). While Clair Nelson occupied the property, he worked as a helper at the Continental Baking Company (R.L. Polk & Co. 1938:296; 1939:316). In 1945, after having resided at the property for six years, Clair and Margaret Nelson obtained ownership ofthe property from Patrick and Antonia Powers (WCR 1945). Two years later, the Nelsons deeded the property to Woodrow and Alta Bingham who maintained ownership until it was purchased by the current owner, the State of Utah.
