Show COLLEGE OF Nursing UNIVERSITY OF UTAH SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH 84112 THE BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM GRADUATE PROGRAMS The College prepares approximately 130 nurses per year who are qualified to function as competent professional nurses holding responsibilities for nursing care in a variety of health care settings. In addition to preparation in the areas of physiological nursing, psychosocial-community nursing, Master of science program offerings are: physiological nursing;. parent-child nursing (including nurse-midwifery); and psychosocial nursing (adult or child-adolescent subprograms). In addition, gradutate courses are offered in transcultural nursing, gerontological nursing, health care systems, nursing research and other new and evolving courses. Graduates of these programs are qualified for responsible nursing positions as clinical specialists, teachers or supervisors. parent-child nursing and managment of patient care, students have opportunities to gain knowledge and clinical skills in new areas such as transcultural nursing, oncological nursing, gerontological nursing and nursing care of people in rural settings. A Doctoral (Ph.D.) program in Nursing has recently been approved. The subfield research specialities in Transcultural, Physiological and Psychosocial Nursing will begin in Fall Quarter, 1977. Programs in Gerontological and Parent-Child Nursing wifl follow in the Fall of 1978. Graduates of these programs wi 11 be prepared to function as .scholars, researchers and leaders in selected specialty areas. CONTINUING EDUCATION A core of nursing faculty members in conjunction with the Univerity of Utah Division of Continuing Education offer a number of varied courses, workshops and programs for nurses in the state, region and nation. These programs afford nurses on-going contact with current knowledge and skills as applied to nursing care and recent developments in health related fields. Opportunity is also provided for regis1tered nurses to obtain Continuing Education Units necessary for certification and recertification. THE HEAL TH SCIENCE COMPLEX In 1975, a Health Sciences Center was formally established under the leadership of a Vice President for Health Sciences. The organization is structured to encourage teaching and research among the health disciplines at the University. The Colleges of Nursing, Health, Pharmacy, and Medicine are the four major colleges actively involved in the Health Center. The social and behavioral science areas also participate in multidisciplinary health teaching, research and patient care. |
