This project was conducted as part of an assessment for the proposed widening of State Road 126 between 12th and 30th streets in Ogden, Weber County, Utah. Historic Site Form (continuation sheet) 4. continued .. 1978 South 1900, West Haven (SJ-331) This property consists of a single-story Vernacular foursquare residence with an in-period gable roof wing addition and an associated garage. There are two mature deciduous trees growing in the yard. Architectural Description Residence The residence on the property, built in 1903 (Weber County Assessor [WCA] 1973), represents a hip roof foursquare house with an in-period gable roof addition and an out-of-peirod shed roof addition to the gable roof addition (WCA 1973). The complete structure measures approximately 6.7-by-12.2-m (22-by-40-ft). The house rests upon a rock-faced ashlar foundation. The walls are covered with horizontal wood drop siding with the exception of the west side of the shed roof addition. This portion of the addition is sided with sheets of pressed board. The pyramidal hip roof is covered with asphalt shingles. There is a square brick chimney located at the top of the hip on the north side and an external metal stovepipe located on the south wall that protrudes through the edge of the roofline. Fenestration on this house is quite modest. There is one window on the north wall, two windows on the west wall and paired window on the south wall of the original house structure. All of these windows consist of one-over-one double-hung variety with wood frames and lug wood sills. The gable roof addition window, located on the south wall, is a two-pane sliding glass window with a wood frame and a lug wood sill. The front door is centrally located on the north wall. It is a wood panel door with inset four-light fixed-sash window. The door is accessed by a two-step side entry poured concrete stoop. The stoop and the doorway are sheltered by a metal awning supported at the front comers by two metal poles. There is a second doorway located in south wall of the gable roof addition. This door is obscured by vegetation. Garage There is a gable-roof garage with a shed-roof shed addition, located east of the house. The garage measures 3-by-4.3-m (1O-by-14-ft), and the shed roof addition measures 1.8 m square (6 ft square). This building and the addition were constructed around 1950 (WCA 1973). The gable-roof is covered with asphalt shingles over boards and the shed roof appears to be covered with tar paper over boards. The walls are covered with horizontal wood plank siding. There is a double swing-out door, constructed of horizontally laid wood planks, located on the north wall. A small two-pane fixed-sash window with a wood frame and sill is located on the west wall of the garage. A door constructed of vertically laid wood planks is located on the west wall of the shed-roof shed. 1978 South 1900 West, West Haven (SJ-331).
