Title Insights Into the Neuroanatomy of Cerebral (Cortical) Visual Impairments
Creator Corinna Bauer, PhD
Affiliation Department of Radiology, Massachusetts General Hospital, Department of Ophthalmology, Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA
Subject Cerebral/cortical Visual Impairment; Early Developmental Brain Injury; Visual Perceptual Disorder; Neuroimaging
Description Recent evidence shows that cerebral (cortical) visual impairment (CVI) is the leading individual cause of pediatric visual impairment in high-income countries, with increasing prevalence in lower- and middle-income countries (for review see Chang and Borchert, 2020). CVI is an umbrella term and manifests differently in each patient and a multidisciplinary assessment approach is recommended according to international guidelines (Boonstra et al., 2019; Ortibus et al., 2019).
