Trauma- Informed planning

The nature of complex trauma is pervasive; therefore, integrating trauma-informed practices into urban planning and the work that urban planners do is integral to working with the most traumatized and at-risk populations. Within social and built urban environments, the systemic and individual barriers that complex trauma survivors face need to guide the implementation and application of trauma-informed practices. This study engaged complex trauma survivors through an online survey with questions about their experiences with housing, transportation, community resources, and future growth. This research aimed to fill the gap between planning and the existing literature and the impacts of trauma on civic involvement. This research comprehensively addressed how the unique needs of complex trauma survivors can guide and shape the future of planning while simultaneously innovating and integrating trauma-informed practices in planning.
