Briefly describe the principal building, additions or alterations and their dates, and associated outbuildings and structures. Use continuation sheets as necessary. This circa 1905 house is an eclectic blend of several elements of the era. It has the basic plan and massing of a Victorian home, with some interesting Romanesque details. It has a large jerkinhead gable on the front, and two Romanesque arch windows on the upper story. The brickjuts out around these windows, and is also fashioned into quoins on the corners. The brick was originally red, but has since been painted cream colored. The rough-hewn lintels have been painted red. The lower story windows and doors have transoms over them still. There has been an attached garage added and an apartment added over that later. 5 HISTORY Architect/Builder: Unknown Historic Themes: Mark themes related to this property with (see instructions for details) _Agriculture _Economics LArchitecture _Education _Archeology _Engineering _Art _Entertainment/ Recreation _Commerce _Communications _Ethnic Heritage _Community Planning _Exploration! They sold the house only one year later to Amelia Pettigrew, who sold it five months later to Campbell and Nellie Clapp. Campbell was a plumber. They had several children living with the, including Rollo, a miner, Homer, a laborer, and Lucy, James, and Claude, who were all students for most the time they lived there. Nellie sold the house in 1913 to Jesse E Smith and his wife Elizabeth. Jesse was involved in livestock, and later on was an engineer. They lived there for ten years before selling it to Jacob F. Jacobson and his wife Clara. Jacob was a machinist for the South Pacific Company. They sold the house a mere three years later. W.J. Blackburn bought it, and sold it just a year later to Silas D. Rawson, and his wife Mary. They appear to have rented it out for the first couple of years they owned it, because in 1928 Raymond Simmons, a chauffeur is living there. However, in 1930 Silas moved in with his wife and seven kids. He was a fireman for the Dee Hospital, and later on was a collector. In 1936, perhaps to make it through the hard times of the Great Depression, they divided the house up into two apartments and rented one out. The tenets seemed to change pretty regularly from this point on. In 1939, the house was further divided into three apartments. Silas Rawson continued to live there until his death in 1950. Mary continued to live there until 1956, at which time a Ms. Mary Galbraith bought it and continued to rent it out. - - -- - --:,L-r- r--------- _._- _._-----_._- - -- ------_._---- -- ---- - --- -, ~ \i -------------------BL-O-C-K--3-4-,-P-L-A-T-C-------------------r1~ ~ ('t) - ---- - ----- - ----- - ---- - ----- o N o o o o N 0) . 0) 0) ..: TAXING UNIT: 25 23RD 99' 99' ...... ~ ... ~ & WF AUOA '" 020310032 Q) N'O< C TtRKaSON 020310031 020310036 020310037 020310030 99' 50' 49' ~ w => ~ ~ CAROl ~ 1~------~I7-38~ .
