This is a black rock cottage with a hall and parlor plan and end-wall chimneys. _~___ It is one story tall and displays bilateral symmetry in its front facade with a central ::: :;JI'"JIi.'\' door and four windo'tvs. Above each of these fi'\"e piercings is a brown granite lintel, ..... though the north gable end has large black rock lintels. The home was built by Thomas ~'. Frazer for John Willden and it has three of the six characteristics that Frazer commonlY4.'; ~, . used in his work: Ashlar stonework on the facades seen from the street, beaded white mortar joints and a Greek Revival style cornice. Because the home is only one story tall, its roof is not as steeply pitched as is found in Frazer's l~ story homes. The rear wall consists of coursed rubbles tone and nearby is the basement for a granary that is no longer extant. This basement is lined with cobblestones and is about two feet deep. 5 Statement of Historical Significance: Construction Date: This two room cottage is an excellent example of Frazer's more modest dwellings. Frazer is best known for his more elaborate homes but this structure proves he built with the same skill and quality for the less expensive residence. The home's unusual features are the brown and black lintels above the windows and doors as discussed above.
