The front facade had two windows and two doors which were arranged with bilateral symmetry, but one of the doors has been moved and another window has been added. There are wooden lintels over those piercings and along the eaves is a nice Greek Revival style cornice with a boxed return on the gables. The home rests upon a rubble, black rock foundation and the original home has been altered with a new porch and several brick additions on the rear. The rear additions are all of a historic date though they certainly help to change the original character of the home. The house is surrounded by a white, picket fence and there is a significant barn on the rear of the property. The barn is in good condition, and was used as sleeping quarters by a family as little as 20 years ago. It is a tall barn and of a very large size for Beaver. It has a gambrel roof with a hood at the peak where a block and tackle was used to hoist hay into the lot. The barn is a frame structure and has a large lean-to on each side. On the inside, logs were frequently used for beams and studs. Photos 5 > a: oI~ :z: Statement of Historical Significance: Construction Date: This home is contributory to a historic district because of its historic date and its altered but still contributory historic appearance. The ~ on the same property is significant because it is one of the few historic barns in Beaver to be in fair condition and it is also one of the largest. There were at one time several barns and granaries on each block in Beaver, but new farming techniques and pressure to subdivide the original one acre lots have contributed to the farm structures'demise. ) ,/ ; / Rolands, Mary, House (Beave~ MRA) Beaver County, UTAH ReViewer's ~/ j ...L ~1~ieJ7n- ~e. .,-,.oT J _/ I ' .J / Action: _ government __-request c6..f:::L tl._ J /' -.I i appeal _ vfe;~:~ r/11/Jv REJECT _ __ NR decision , ) ..L / ~I- ~ du".:... -6el't' /J?~ I~, . -;' .
