Henry Gale Building Materials: pink stone&stucco (?) Building Type/Style: ----------------------- Description of physical appearance & significant architectural features: (Inc lu de 3dditions, al te rations, anci llary structures , and landscapin g if appli ca bl e) UJ lI U . The home has an irregular plan and irregular massing.. It has a mansard roof, an indication of a later building date (c.1901). The ., sontework appears to be of excellent quality, though the mortar joints 8.re not. '-T ey are about 1\" wide and somewhat uneven. There is a wide, Greek Revival cornice along the eaves and a black rock foundatioa, though it is now cemented over. The north and west facades, both of which face the street, are built of nicely cut pink rock while the south facade is built of blackrubblestone which is infrequently used in conjunction with the pink tuff~ Theee was originally a bay window on the front facade, but it was removed and replaced with a flat picture window. On the interior, all the walls except one are stone. The ceilings were originally 12 feet tall though they've been lowered to eight feet today. The interior walls are not square and plumb, but whether this defect is because of the stonework or the lathe and plaster is not clear. Like most rock homes in Beaver, the mortar in the walls is made of adobe with very little, if any, lime. Only about one inch on the exterior consists of a regular lime mortar, a fact that has made re-painting necessary in this home and others like it.
