Description Neuromyelitis Optica is a rare disease of the central nervous system that presents with attacks of optic neuritis and/or myelitis. This condition is associated with antibodies selective for aquaporin-4 (AQP4), a water channel located within the optic nerves and spinal cord. In contrast, involvement of the peripheral nervous system is rare and reported in only a handful of cases. We examined a patient, seropositive for NMO, with a debilitating rapidly progressive sensory motor neuropathy.
