Description Giant cell arteritis (GCA) results in visual loss typically through anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION), posterior ischemic optic neuropathy, central retinal artery occlusion, or cilioretinal artery occlusion.1,2 Perioptic neuritis is very rare in GCA, and only few cases have been reported.3,4 We present a rare case of bilateral perioptic neuritis from GCA, with a component of AION that improved significantly with high-dose steroids.
