Description Hypophysitis is an uncommon inflammatory disorder of the pituitary gland. Compressive (and potential inflammatory) injury to contiguous structures, including the optic chiasm as well as cranial nerves III, IV, and VI in the cavernous sinus affects between 12-52% of patients with hypophysitis.
