Description |
Venous papillopathy (so-called 'papillophlebitis') is defined as paucisymptomatic isolated disc edema thought to be associated with inflammation-mediated venous retinal congestion, although the exact mechanism is unknown. Importantly, there is absence of classic features of a CRVO, like retinal hemorrhages, cotton wool spots and macular edema. Typically observed in young healthy patients, it has a benign course with spontaneous recovery. It remains a diagnosis of exclusion and requires extensive work-up to rule out other etiologies. We present a unique case of venous papillopathy with persistent unilateral disc edema for over 12 years. |
